Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality - What they mean to the world we live in!

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are 2 hot buzzwords we hear in evolving Tech World.
Let's try to clarify the Uniqueness of each VR and AR Technologies.

  • What is Virtual Reality?
Virtual - Meaning : "Being something in effect, though not in actually or in fact"
                                                                (15th Century)
                    -Douglas Harper Etymology Dictionary

In simple terms VR is a computer generated simulation or replacement of one's environment.

e.g.:-You put on a headset. It blocks out your world view and substitute the digital world              that is designed to fool your senses. From the point of your brain, you're somewhere              else; it's a form of mental Teleportation.

VR is an approximation of our reality that is  digital, but not the reality itself. Currently VR has become an immersive extreme to Gamers, 3D Artists, Architectures and real estate agents, teachers & students and even Astronauts.

  • What is Augmented Reality?

        Augment is from
                         Latin Word: Augere
Meaning : "To increase" or "To add"

Augmented Reality also known as Mixed Reality is a different beast from Virtual Reality. This is because its main purpose isn't to cut out the real world and transport you to another one; but rather is to be an enhancement of your real world with a set of magical virtual objects in it.

When a person's real environment is supplemented or augmented with computer generated images which are motion tracked, that's Augmented Reality.

e.g.-: If you play google play ground, Snapchat, Instagram lens face filters, then you're                  already used primitive forms of AR.

Augmented Reality simply means adding to our existing reality.

  • What is the difference between VR & AR?

VR tends to be completely immersive with no real world stimuli affecting the experience. The goal of VR is to make user feel as they are in another place at that moment.

AR acts as a digital addition to the user's world.

e.g.:- objects can appear on tables, information can be displayed in floating windows and graphics can be generated all seamlessly motion tracked to the users field of view.

A Thing that makes AR & VR different from any other forms of technology is that it directly affects the perceptions and processes of the human mind in an obvious way if the only technology that can provide actual packaged experiences.

So guys we are living in an evolving tech-world where AR and VR technologies show incredible potential. "Life in the new Millennium, a complications with a Confusion?" Will AR & VR experience make our lives much better?
